Could You Qualify for a
Life-Saving Screening?
Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer, yet most eligible people have never been screened. A low-dose CT scan takes less than 10 minutes, requires no needles or medications, and could save your life.
You May Qualify If You Meet These Criteria
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends annual LDCT screening for adults who meet all of the following:
Ages 50 – 80
Current screening guidelines recommend adults between 50 and 80 years old
20 Pack-Year History
Smoked 1 pack/day for 20 years, or 2 packs/day for 10 years, or equivalent
Current or Former Smoker
Currently smoke, or quit within the last 15 years
No Recent Lung CT
Have not already had a lung CT scan in the past 12 months for this purpose
Based on your responses, you meet the USPSTF criteria. Talk to your doctor or take the official eligibility quiz to confirm, then schedule your scan at Houston Methodist or Memorial Hermann.
You meet some but not all criteria. Your doctor can evaluate your individual risk factors, including family history or occupational exposure, and determine if screening is right for you.
That's okay — if you have other risk factors like family history or exposure to radon or asbestos, speak with your doctor. Guidelines may also change as research evolves.

Low-dose CT (LDCT) is the only recommended tool for lung cancer screening. Here's what to expect from start to finish:
Talk to Your Doctor
Ask your primary care provider if annual lung screening is right for you. A Lung Nurse Navigator can assist with referrals.
Schedule Your Scan
Book at an accredited screening center. Houston Methodist and Memorial Hermann both offer LDCT with dedicated support teams.
The Scan (Under 10 Minutes)
You lie on a table and pass through a CT scanner. No injections, no dye, no preparation needed. Completely painless.
Get Your Results
Results are typically available within a few days. Your care team will walk you through next steps based on findings.
Repeat Annually
Lung cancer screening is most effective as a yearly habit for eligible individuals, not a one-time event.
Covered by Most Insurance
LDCT is covered at no cost by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance for eligible individuals.
